Lauren takes the plunge and meets the assassin on the bridge. We discuss the symbolism of that towards the end.
Before she agrees, however, she has some questions. At the point of a gun, by the way. She asks the questions we've all been asking: Why didn't he kill her? Why does he trust her?
The assassin takes this about as seriously as we've come to expect of him. We discuss the sarcastic front he puts up to protect himself and convince the world he is uncaring and flippant. He does, however, become more somber when speaking about the Phantom Scythe. We learn that he, like Lauren, is also on a revenge quest against the leader.
They discuss their conditions, which, if you've read further on in PH, you know they absolutely keep. Their banter is just amazing, and shows how well suited they are to working together (also maybe living together for the rest of their lives??? 👰).
Lauren accepts the deal, her face equally split between light and shadow (more symbolism).
Of course, being dramatic, Kieran has to go and ruin the moment by slicing his hand open with his giant sword. Lauren rebuts with a well-prepared dagger of her own, and together, bloodied, they shake their hands.
